Castle Rock Dunsborough

Castle Rock Bay, Dunsborough

Castle rock bay is located east of Cape Naturaliste. It is home to pristine blue waters and the outstanding sight that is Castle rock. Its best to visit between November to March but the landscape is a beautiful place all year round.

The soft white sand is great for laying out your towel and  relaxing in the sun. The bay is protected by the swell that hits the west side of the coast leaving the water calm and perfect for swimming. Don’t forget your snorkel gear, you may just spot schools of fish, rays or even a octopus hiding around the rocks.

Castle rock itself is well – a rock. It is more then that though geologically speaking. This large granite piece formed what is assumed to be during the Proterozoic Era when the super continent Gondwana broke up estimating million years ago.

There are walking trails that follow the coast line from Meelup beach through to Hurford street in Dunsborough. The there and back trail is only 7 and a half kilometres and offers sights of many beaches, wildlife and native fauna. To help conserve the area please stick to the designative pathways.

Next to the parking lot at the entrance to Castle bay is a toilet block, shady trees with picnic tables and gas BBQ’s.

Fishing is permitted and I hear its best of the rocks on the left.
